About

Medialab_Labs is a platform that serves to collect all the projects carried out at Tabakalera Medialab. Those projects can be run by communities and open groups, open calls or the own team.

Responding to the philosophy of free software, “do it yourself” (DIY) and “do it with others” (DIWO), this platform collects all the information related to each of the projects and is based on digital culture and technology. The principles of working in a social landscape and the critical, creative and collaborative use of technologies have been the same that created in Hirikilabs back in the day and since 2020 in Medialab Tabakalera.

The objective of Medialab_Labs is to share knowledge and information by making available to the public what is generated by the people who participate in the open groups, so that the achievements can be replicated and improved by whoever has an interest in them.

Each project has as much information as possible: Project’s gallery, Project’s description, Materials, Design planes, Assembly, Tools, Programming, Interesting links, etc.

In addition to the projects themselves, the platform includes complementary information on the open groups that develop them. Open groups that participate in the dynamics and research areas in which Medialab Tabakalera focuses are: Open Design – Open Furniture, Cinema and Technology, Citizen Astronomy, 3D Ikasi, Textile Experimentation, Food Hacklab, Katxarraroak, Precious Plastic, Data Commons Lab.

The purpose is to continue incorporating both current and past projects that have not yet been incorporated into the platform, so that we can, little by little, give visibility to everything developed at Medialab Tabakalera.

By publishing the files on the web, any user anywhere in the world is offered the possibility of replicating these pieces using digital manufacturing tools.
